HEY I finally got a new tank. i got a 46 gallon bow front!!! Super excited!!!!. I only have 2 platy 2 black shirt tetra and red tip tetra. What other fish would go well with that mix?? I don't want the same fish that I have always had. I am wanting something different?? Any suggesting?

Hello! I'm from North Carolina as well.

From what I've read those fish are best in schools, meaning like 6 or so of each. I'd start there and I'd probably consider some sort of bottom feeder Pleco or similar to help in keeping the algae in check. Be careful which Pleco you choose as many get very big very fast. Also some Plecos do eat smaller fish, research carefully! You may decide on some Corydoras Catfish instead.

You probably want some sort of "centerpiece fish" to compliment the tank but small schools of each of these fish will make a nice community in my humble opinion. A very nice centerpiece fish would be something like a Sailfin Molly, he should go well with the others here but do your own research to make sure. Hope that helps!

Tetras are indeed a schooling fish and require greater numbers to be happy and get the best out of them.

Cory Cats would work great here, ensure you get at least 6 though as once again these are fish which love to be in groups of there own.

The peaceful community set up is what your currently aiming for am I correct? In that case, I think maybe a Blue Dwarf Gourami would look good as a centre piece. It will inhabit mainly the middle/top portions of the tank so will be on show quite regular. They are a peaceful fish and should be stocked with other species accordingly. They can be timid at first but once established in there surroundings, they are quite visual.

Do you plan on planting the tank? Plecos can be a nuiscance in lifting up plants as they grow. Bristlenose may work, but these can gro to 6" in length, IMO Cories all the way
:good:

I live in Clayton just Southeast of Raleigh.

Great choice on the Gouramis, they're my favorite. I currently have a very beautiful Gold male that's just around 2.5-3 inches long. He has some really distinct tiger striping on his back. I plan to put him in another tank with Gouramis, maybe Pearls or Opaline, & German Blue Ram Cichlids, so that's a serious coincidence!

What kind of Gouramis did you get? Are they male or female & how big are they? Do they get along well? I was really looking to get Dwarf Gouramis because of their easygoing nature but the fish stores around here are all infested with Dwarf Gourami Disease. I lost a Red Flame male & 2 females. That was enough for me..................
