Hi; welcome to the forum!

Your decoration sounds fine; just remember that fish like a lot of decorations; it makes them feel secure knowing there are safe hiding places for them nearby.

The cloudy water is probably a bacterial bloom, it's very common in new tanks and will either clear up on it's own or with some large water changes.

Just running a tank won't prepare it for fish; you need to get a colony of bacteria growing in the filter to proccess the fish wastes and keep the water safe; this is called 'cycling' and there are some good articles on how to do it in the begginner's resource centre (the link is in my sig).

what fish you have is really up to you; there are literally hundreds of species out there. The best thing to do is have a look around your LFS (local fish shop) and see what you like the look of and then come home and research them online. There are many fish that will grow too big for your tank (most plecs, for instance!) or are too aggressive and sometimes people in shops are more concerned with making a sale than being honest about a fish'es eventual size (and sometimes they don't know and just make it up; hard to believe, I know, but we see it here all the time!)

Best of luck and do get back to us with any more questions you have :)
