Hello all,

My new Juwel Korall 60 arrived today. It's a 54 litre tropical aquariam for my bedroom. I just finished filling it up with water and planted it with some Valis, Anubias and 2 other easy to care for plants (can't remember the names). I also have 2 pieces of wood, which are floating at the moment. They will sink to the bottom in a few days hopefully.

In my main tank (120 litre) downstairs I have my 4 guppies. Over the last few weeks I've bought 4 Dwarf Coral Platies and 8 Cardinal Tetras.

I'm thinking of moving either the platies or the tetras, or both to my new tank when it completes it's cycle. Would 8 tetras and 4 platies be too much for a 54 litre tank? Or do I leave all these fish in the 120 litre main tank and get something different for my 54 litre? What other livebearers could happilly live in this small tank?

I originally wanted some endlers for this tank but my LFS doesn't sell any.

Any help/advice is appreciated. I'm not in a hurry since I have weeks to wait for the tank to cycle.

Thanks

Mothi

Platies are quite lively fish, and i think they need quite a lot of room.
I think that the 8 tetras should be alright, but as they are a shoal they might want some more room, so it might be better to leave them in the other tank with the platies.
You could put you 4 guppies in there, as they are livebearers i would be careful if you don't want to breed them because they will overstock.
The endlers might come in to stock in your LFS, have you asked them whether they will be getting any?

Personally, I would prefer to go for even smaller fish for the tank, such as black chins or something similar. There are a lot of very small livebearers, but most would only be available for breeders, so it's worth looking at when the net major livebearer auction is in your area.

Otherwise dwarf tetras (ember, ruby) or microrasboras.

Thanks for the replies. Moving the guppies to new tank is a good option too Amy1994, it never occured to me before since the main tank has been a guppy tank for some years now. I just assumed my LFS doesn't stock endlers since I have never seen any in there. I will ask them when I go there next weekend and see if they can maybe bring some in.

Also I've been told that the platies I have wont grow more than 2 inches. Do you know if that's true? If so then I think the new tank is big enough to house the platies?

Kitty Kat, I have never heard of Black Chins before. I'm going to do some google research on these and the dwarf tetras you mentioned. Maybe I would like one these and check with my LFS if they can bring any in. I agree with you about keeping the smallest fish in this tank. This is what I want but I have to also like the fish, preferably livebearers.

Are there any other small livebearers that you can recommend?

Black chins are Girardinus metallicus. Another excellent one I kept were Neoheterandria elegans. There are probably 100s of small ones which will fit; ask fishbase for a list.

Thanks Kat, I'll check fishbase out.

Just a quick update on this tank.

It's been cycled for a few days now and the water readings are:

PH- 7.5
Amonnia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- around 40ppm ( I really can't tell from the colours whether it's 30,40 or 50ppm :S )

I moved one of my femal guppy who was heavily pregnant on Saturday and she gave birth on the same day. This morning I moved 2 guppy fries from the previous batch from the main tank to this one.

The image isn't that clear and doesn't show most of the fries. There are around 24-30 fries in here.

As for keeping endlers, I'm looking at the Arcadia Arc 60l :0 My mum will go mental if I get another tank right now though so I will wait a few months for it:D

you could easily get several shoals of different tetra in that tank. Cardinals, neons and glowlights all shoal together. Rummy nose tetra are good too. I have about 36 fish in my 64 litre tank. All are small and with regular water changes all are fine happy, water conditions are good. Haven't lost any. Its what you can manage. :) good luck!
