I've just had my new aquarium delivered today :hyper: after waiting a week for it....just one little problem - I'm scared to put water in it!

When I picked it I went for the bigger of the 2 tanks available, so ended up with an aqua one aquience 650 cube which is 65cm and 220 litres. However when it has arrived it seems bigger than I envisioned. Yes, I did now the measurements and thought that the size was fine - funny when it arrived and we dragged it upstairs it looks much bigger than it should  .

I've read the instructions and it reckons that with water, etc it could weigh in at around 1000kgs - obviously I'm a bit worried about the weight. I live in a first floor flat (above garages)with a block and beam floor (I believe)so don't want to set it up without making sure I'm not going to end up with a hole in my floor!

I'm hoping to move to a house at the end of April so do you reckon I should hold off filling it or will I be okay?

Thanks

I dunno about the weight, but I imagine it'll be a huge pain to move it once set up, maybe you should wait till April? :hyper:

I'm stuck in the American weight and measures system, but doesn't one litre of water weigh 1 kilogram? If that is so, I would think the tank with water would be 220 kilos. Is my logic correct???

Even with substrate, your tank would not go much over 350 kilograms, which should be okay for a standard floor to handle.

Why not cycle your tank/filter for now and then add your fish when you have moved to your house.

Keith.

The tank on it's own apparently weighs 150 kilos, the stand is 30 kilos, I've got 16 kilos of substrate plus bog wood, etc

Now, I've got the leaflet I got which reckons up to 600 kilos, but their website states 1,000 kilos.... in hindsight I'm thinking they're talking about the weight of a marine set up.

I honestly don't know if I can wait until the end of April to get it set up , I certainly won't have it stocked fully by then but would like to have a few fish in there already.

Oh - I didn't realize the tank would weigh that much. But I still think you are okay to set up and get the cycling started. You'll be glad you got it out of the way, I bet.

Certainly am - really didn't realise how wide 65cms is when it needs to be carried up a staircase! I'm not sure if I believe the website's info about the weight of the tank but it was VERY heavy - we couldn't lift it between 2 of us and had to lift it resting on a step at a time

Well the water is in and I've still got my floor intact, although I don't think we'll sleep too well tonight - waiting for a crash!

I've so far put 24 kilos of gravel in, but I don't think the gravel is deep enough so will have to buy some more when it's back in stock - although don't fancy putting gravel in a tank already with water in!

Water is lovely and clear, just waiting for the bubbles to vanish off the glass and start the wait now.
