Hi, i think i may have over stocked my tank. My tank is 12UK gallons and i have 10 fish. is this too much?, they are
-2 Tiger Barbs
-1 Kissing Gourami
-4 Platys
-3 Black Mollies
i am saving up for a bigger tank but i am new to the hobby. what size would you recomend and any fish ideas?
please reply :)

Hi there,

For the barbs, platys and mollies a tank of about 30 US gallons would be sufficient. Your main problem is the kissing gourami as these can reach 12" in length and would require a much larger tank of about 60-75 gallons. I'd recommend you re-home the gourami.

The tank is currently overstocked so don't add any more fish. When you get a larger tank I'd recommend you increase the number of tiger barbs to 6 minimum as aggression tends to occur in small groups as they mature.

Was the tank cycled? If so, how?

Hi, ok thanks for the advice. where would you consider me re-homing it to?, can i sell it too a shop or something?

yes i did for 4 weeks

You can either advertise the fish in the classified section of this forum or take it to your local fish store. Some stores will give you credit for a fish, others may not but at least you'll be putting the fishes needs first and that's worth more than a few bob.

How did you cycle the tank? Fishless? Fish-in?
