Hi All
Im in the process of setting up a new tank, i want to put my soaked mopani in and use some carbon to clear the tannin colour a little. But then when my plants go in i know the carbon will clear the liquid fertilizer up too. So whats the best thing to do?

Thanks

In my experience carbon does very little to eliminate tannins. I'd skip the carbon, use the fertilisers and do frequent water changes. It's a pain, but there's no other way around it really.

think theres gonna be a few differing opinions on this 1 lol ive used carbon 2 get rid of tannins very sucsessfully :) but laura's way is a much better solution if using ferts saves any undue hassle :)

What sort of wood were you using? Are all tannins the same? I found carbon absolutely useless in removing tannins from eucalyptus wood but it may work on other types of wood, I'm not sure about mopani.
