all right im new to this forum and am gettin a new tank 92inchX24inchX24inch and was after some opinions on tank set ups filters, heaters which is the best way to go and any think else

Hi Sconly and :hi: to the boards,

That is a big tank you are getting, and in a tank that size (i make it 868 litres), you could almost have anything you like (obviously with some exceptions, before someone corrects me).

With regard filtration, for a tank that size, external canister filters are your best option. Eheim are good, as are Fluval, Tetra-Tec and Rena. I would look at having at least 2, maybe 3.

Heating can sometimes be incorporated into the external filter if you choose carefully. If not, i'd recommend at least 2 heaters, maybe 3 to evenly heat a tank that size. The new Rena Smart Heater is supposedly very good.

How are you going to cycle the filters? I recommend 'Fishless Cycling' as cycling with fish in the tank will usually kill the fish. Unfortunately, this is probably the method your LFS will recommend. If they don't, i'll be very impressed.

If you don't know what 'Fishless cycling' is, you can read all about it in the link in my signature below. Please consider it carefully as it can save the lives of the fish you would otherwise sacrafice.

Lighting could be a problem depending on which kind of set up you choose. If you choose a set up which requires good lighting, i would suggest metal halide would be the best. These usually hang from the ceiling above the tank.

Have you got test kits, net, bucket, dechlorinator, fish food etc etc? These can sometimes be forgotten in the excitement of getting a new tank. You should have at least ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH test kits to start off with.

I would go looking for which type of fish you like and come back to us with a list, and we can tell you if any aren't suitable etc etc.

Good luck with your monster tank.

Cheers :good:

BTT

Hello and welcome to the forum. :hi:

Speaking strictly from my point of view, I would go with dual external filters and heaters, one on each end, on a tank that size. You get better water flow and if one filter or heater does happen to go out, you still have one working. General rule of thumb is you need a filter/filters rated at least 5x the tank volume and heaters at least 3x the tank volume. If you plan to keep messy fish such as goldfish, oscars, etc. you probably need extra filtration. I'm assuming that you are planning a FW tank and not marine.

Hi sconly :)

Welcome to the forum! :flowers:

868 liters converts to a huge 225 US gallons! I'd love to see pictures of it as you progress with setting it up. What kind of fish are you into?
