Ok iam getting my new 20 gal tank today now heres the prob my old little tank is bottom filtered so do I just suck some old stuff out of the bottom filter and put it in the new filter also any suggestions on extra things to buy like water kits which I have but any thing else would be helpful I want to star my fish off right and not rush into anything thanks. I also have floating lettuce in my little tank should I put some of it in my new tank right away.

you should buy a bunch of nitrite, nitrate and amonia test kits first.

If you are using an under gravel filter in your old tank, you can use gravel from that tank to seed your new tank. Simply add some of the gravel (try to get it from an area where there is water flow as some of the gravel will get clogged and thus not have much flow through it) to your filter and you should be able to cycle pretty quickly.

Thank you for your suggestion very helpful indeed
