I HAVE GOT A NEW TANK WEN I HAVE CYCLED HOW MANY OF MY FISH SHALL I TRANSFER FROM MY OLD TANK AT A TIME AND IN WHAT INTERVALS. ALSO IF I HAVE A PROPER FISH TANK CABINET MADE OF WOOD DO I NEED TO PUT POLYSTRENE UNDER THE TANK. ANY ADVICE IS MUCH APPRECIATED

If the cabinet and tank came as a whole complete unit then I would say no to the polystyrene. If the cabinet and tank are not meant to go together then I would say yes to the polystyrene. If you are fishless cycling by adding ammonia to your new tank then you can fully stock once it has finished. Ideally at the moment you want to be either running your new filter in the old tank alongside the mature filter OR you can take about a third of the sponge and ceramic media from your mature filter, add it to you new one with its new sponges a and new ceramic media and add a a school of fish immediately. How many it is safe to add is tricky. You will have a third of the bacteria from your old filter so no more than a third of your old stock, in fact I would be inclined to add less, maybe a quarter of your old stock.
