Sorry i have posted this twice but posted it in the wrong place the first time and couldn't figure out how to move it.

I have finally decided what i'd like to keep in my new tank?I am a sort of beginner i keep a betta at the moment with 2 aquatic dwarf frogs so just wanted to know if ive got this right?

I am hoping to put in -

some platies
some guppies
some black widow tetras
and finally some neons? Does that sound ok?

Also I am going to keep the betta in his own tank but would i be able to transfer the dwarf frogs over to the bigger tank?

Thanks all :good:

need to know the size of the tank

fish all seem compatible though

how many of each fish are you looking at keeping

im not too good with the stocking thing but it sounds alright to me

About 4 each of the guppies ,platies, and tetras and mabey about 10 neons

80 litres? if i did my math right, thats about 20-21 US gallons, right? if so, I hope all of those little fish don't grow much bigger than an inch. That is if one goes by the 'inch per gallon' theory. I did a little simple research on the basic names of these fish and the info i've found says all of these fish reach 1" to 2.5" inches when mature. I've never had any of these fish either, so I don't know first hand how big they all get. maybe extra water changes would help control the bio-load from all of them - again, my answer is solely based on google results so no personal experiences to add in....

.....maybe not as many neons ?

regardless of what decision you make on your options, good luck on the new tank!!!

................one last thing came to mind, what would you do with all the fry from all of these fish? it sure would be a cool site to see!

It will be over-crowded. The platies will take up almost 1/2 the available tank space with the 1 inch per US gallon rule of thumb.

using some very rough numbers (these lengths are on the low side too)
name - length * number = total length
Neons - 1 inch/fish * 10 = 10
Platies - 2 inch/fish *4 = 8
guppy - 1 inch/fish *4 = 4
Black skirt Tetra - 2 inch/fish *4 = 8
betta - 2 inch/fish *1 = 2
frogs = 1.5 in (pure guess) *2 = 3

So you have about 35 inch of fish in there. Which is almost 2x the recommended stocking.

If you do go with something similar, also be aware that platies and guppies are prolific breeders and can pop out 50+ fry about every month. Most would end up being fish food, but some will likely survive.

is the betta in this tank, if so i really wouldn't reccomend keeping them with guppies or tetras as they are very pippy and the betta would think the guppies are another betta and probably kill them, or they and the tetras killl him/her

No the betta is in his own tank with the frogs at the min and will be staying there, he won't be going into the new one.
