Hi

I inherated a fish tank (80g) and was told it was over stocked. I have purchased a (150g) (UK) tank today and just busy setting it up. I was wondering from the stock I have already what would be the best way to split the stock up and to witch tank to put them in and also what (if anything else) could be added to finish of the stock?

At present

Red Tailed Black Shark
2 Sail fin molly
1 Male Fighter
1 Female Fighter
5 Guppys
5 tetra (of some sort) they have a organge strip down the side
5 Tetra (of some sort) they are see through with a bright blue eye
2 kissing Gourami (hoping to trade in at LFS as advised previously)
2 Moonlight Gourami
2 Shrimps of some sort
1 Bristle nose
1 clown loach

Can anyone help, before I get shot down for being over stocked, I inheritated the tank and done the best so far for the fish. any help would be appreciated

first things first, seperate the male and female fighters, that only ends in bloodshed, the male fighter needs his own tank alone. the female fighter, depending on aggression, may get into trouble with the gouramis.

Hi,
Clown loaches are a shoaling fish, so if i was u, i would get a couple more and put them into the 150g tank. Also you shouldnt have a male and a female fighter in the same tank unless they are spawning. And also (me just being picky) the two sailfin mollies are male and female right? u should really have two females to one male to reduce stress.

Thats all i can help u with i'm afraid, wait untill some of the more experienced members reply.

Thanks :D

Unless you want lots of fry, try to get rid off the mollies, give em away or something

Red Tailed Black Shark
2 Sail fin molly buy more male to female ratio 1:3 80g
1 Male Fighter buy a seperate 2 gallon or more tank
1 Female Fighter buy a separate 2 gallon or more tank
5 Guppys what gender? Same male to female ratio as mollies 80g
5 tetra (of some sort) they have a organge strip down the side dunno but 150g
5 Tetra (of some sort) they are see through with a bright blue eye dunno but 150g
2 kissing Gourami (hoping to trade in at LFS as advised previously) 150g
2 Moonlight Gourami 150g
2 Shrimps of some sort either
1 Bristle nose either
1 clown loach get 3 more, 150g

or put all tetras as well in the 80, and maybe some angels/discus for the 150g, you have got quite a bit of tank to play with :D

Will there be a tank of the month??? :D Good name keep it simple.
ive had mollies for over 5 month now and not 1 lot of fry! my gupppies on the other hand...

Took me 5 months to get any survivors out of my platies- and I only had 1 surviving fry from my gups over a period of 1 year. But my present guppies are not fry eaters at all. Totally unpredictable IMO.

Is it just me but i cant beleive that he was told he was overstocked. thats an 80g appart from the betta that shouldnt really be in community tanks.

im with ginge how on gods earth is that 80g overstocked the only thing you need to do mate is take out the bettas then i would say you can add more to the 80g

kissing gourami's grow big remember up to 12". same with the clowns.

apart from that it's not overstocked just 'mis-stocked' with betta's etc.

:good:

yeah, it probably is, i have 2 kissing gourami's in my 80g but with the clown aswel, that's three 12" fish that would produce alot of waste.

but i would say you he was ok. i was just trying to find some reasoning behind what people had said about overstocking.

:good:

female betta are ok in community tanks i used to keep some in mine, all i would change would of been get a 5g and keep the male betta in that. females are some times a problem if this one is you could divide the 5g in half and the problem would be solved.

:good:

yeah I wouldn't say that was overstocked desperatley as an 80g, yes some of the numbers needed adjusting and the m fighter taking out, all I'd have done is put the fighter in a little tank for himself, re-homed the kissers and that would have left enough room to adjust the ratio's and numbers of the other fish :)
