What shape is the tank? What are your water parameters? Do you want one pet fish or a group?

With all this tanken into hand id say african cichlids. For colour and semiagressiveness. You can also keep them in groups or in small numbers

ok the problem with african cichlids is that i want to put in a couple cories, plec, and maybe a molly or two and they guy at the pet store said that if i put in some african cichlids that they are going to kill everything in the tank. are african cichlids that agrassive becuase i want a couple different kind of fish in there just not all one kind. and my tank is like 4 feet long maybe a foot wide and 18 inches high. i didnt messerure that it that pretty close. so please help.

If you want cories (should be a group, not a couple, theya re schooling fish), then you are better off without the African cichlids. (Also, they don't at all want the same conditions).
Really, cories don't go with semi-aggressive, they are just too peaceful, they can't stand up for themselves. You could aim at something with a lot of action without the aggressiveness, like giant danios or swordtails. Or gouramis, they have a bit of aggressiveness in their makeup, but not too bad and they stay near the surface.
The mollies also want to be in groups (though don't let the males outnumber the females unless you keep males only).

i think guppies add a lot of colour to the tank if you get variations of species. Personally though i love german blue rams or any other rams for that matter, they're lovely and the german blues are very peacefull unless they start to breed apparently, they need 20 UK gal min though.
You may like to go for a few platties and mollies, plenty of colour can be found in them and they're quick to familiarise with people
