Hi and welcome to the forum

Yes, Juwels are good tanks (or at least from my experience). You can find loads of information on fishless cycling on the forum following various links or just type fishless cycling into Google and your'll get loads of responses.
I have never tried fishless cycling but from what I know its about 6 weeks, i'm sure somebody who has done it will be able to tell you for sure.
You can pick tests up from your LFS (local fish store) that test for ammonia. nitrate, nitrite etc. etc.

Anyway, hope this helps - Any questions don't hesitate to ask - this forum is very very good and somebody will answer them pretty quick!

Cheers!

Juwel tanks are good tanks; only problem is the light bulbs aren't very strong, but once they blow you can always replace them with something better (I just have).

The fishless cycle varies; mine took 10 days and 14 days respectively. Usually quicker than cycling with fish.

What I did was add enough drops to bring the ammonia reading up to c 5 ppm (about 12 drops for 60 ltrs I think), keeping count of the drops; then added same amount of drops (from a pipette) every day until the ammonia readings dropped and the nitrites spiked, then I added half the amount of drops every day until the nitrites too went down to 0. Then I did a 70 % water change and added fish within 24 hrs. Worked really well. I added plants and decorations at the start of the fishless cycle to have something to look at and I think that helped to speed it up.

I bought ammonia from a hardware store. Make sure it contains nothing except ammonia and water.

I use the API Freshwater Master kit (liquid tests); this contains tests for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph and water hardness, and you can buy separate refill bottles of reagents as and when you run out (they last forever).

thx m8 :) i only registered today and i have read many different opinions on fishless cycling some say from 1 week and some say 2 months lol so its confusing :hyper:
