Have got a 1000mm x 500mm x 500mm tank about 53 gallon.

It was one of the Chinese made (I think) ones with the filter in the lid and integral twin light with spearate switches. £100 off rrp too in LFS sale!

I have put approx 3/4" of sharp grave, then 1 1/2 inch flourite with 3/4" of play sand at the top.

The bad news was I had to empty it a day after I filled it as the cloudiness was terrible.

The good news is it is now clear as a bell and however much you disturb the sand it is crystal clear again in minutes.

The Danios are absolutely loving it.

I would recommend sand anytime if compatible with the fish as it is so much easier to plant plants in - they actually stay in, especially my microvallis!

No - I only have Danios (about 10 different species and a few swordtails.

I simply re used the filter contents in the new filter and added in the water from the old tank which cycles it pretty quickly.

After 24 hours with the fish in

Nitrate = 10

Nitrite= 0

PH down from 8.0 to 7.5 (carbon dioxide generator probably did this!
