Hello,

Today I bought 2 young goldfish, a Black Moor and a Red Oranga. Due to insufficient space at the moment I have started off with a 34 litre tank however I do have a spare 93 litre tank.
The fish are getting used to their small tank but would raising them in this small 34 litre tank have any adverse affects as to raising them straight off in the 93 litre tank?
I am planning on switching them into the 93 litre tank at some stage but how long should I wait before doing this?

Cheers guys.

Hello

Im not a goldfish expert by a long shot but can tell you the 93 litre is your best option to start with as in the smaller tank will become stunted, here is a good linky really informative:

Thanks for the link!
Yes, I think I will make the switch to the larger tank sooner than later but how should I go about switching the fish from one tank to another?
Cycle the larger tank first and then net them across?

I will also be getting a internal filter, are there any recommendations for a 90 litre tank and will the tank need a pump?

Cheers.

Realistically, you should only keep one goldfish in a tank that size.

If you attempt to keep two, at the very least you will need to provide very good filtration and just about no internal filter will do when the fish get bigger and older.

I would definetly recommend getting at least an external canister filter, as this has a much larger sponge surface area compared to any internal and will do a much much better job at keeping the waste levels that the goldfish are known to produce down.
