I have heard that New tank syndrome is where at first you will loose some fish.

Is this true?

And if so i know it sounds cruel but what fish should i test it with?

Sorry but just something i heard and wanted to ask about?

you dont need to use fish at all to cycle your tank, read the pinned topic on fishles cycling

Yes, you are right about new tank syndrome. But the good news is that it IS avoidable. You do this by cycling your tank before you add your fish.

Please take zoekin's advice and read up on cycling.

This is the thread about fishless cycling. Please Read. If you have any questions about it, dont be afraid to ask.

It is easy to do, just it takes a few weeks. If you know of someone living near to you, you could ask them for some of their filter media. That will help speed up your tank cycling.

If you really can't wait to add fish, then just add a few platties and wait a week or 2 before adding more. This is a really slow process compared to the fishless cycle, and is very stressful for the fish.

The fishless cycle, once complete, allows you to almost fully stock your tank straight away, where as with the other method of adding fish, you can only add a few every other week.
