I'm finally getting my 180 litre tank on 4 Jan and I am busily planning on plants and fish for this :D

Here are my thoughts on fish:

1 clown plec - he has to move from a smaller tank
6 harlequin rasbora - maybe more if I can
5 marbled hatchet fish
2 blue rams
4 bronze corys

I did wonder if I had too many fish for the lower levels, as I believe rams prefer the bottom area. Not sure what plants to get for soft water, slightly acidic, medium light.

Any thoughts/ sggestions welcome!

;) I think that is a good list of stock for an 180 litre. Why not have a few more than 6 harlequin rasbora and have a nice colourful shoal of them? I don't think you will be over-stocking the lower levels with 4 corys and 1 plec, even though you are right in thinking that rams prefer to be down the bottom. What sorts of plants are you planning to buy?

Ideally I thought 10 of the harlequins would be good, but I was thinking about the stocking levels (I learnt the hard way with my first tank).

Plants - hmm - not sure :S Thought I would try anubias nana, echinodorus tenellus, hydrocotyle vulgaris for foreground, cryptocoryne nevillii, echinodorus paniculatus for middle, cabomba caroliniana, hygrophilia polysperma for the back and limnobium laevigatum for surface cover. Thats for starters anyway - really depends on what I can get a hold of from lfs. :p Quite fancy a well-plated aquarium but don't know if I've got the experience yet to keep it properly.

I need to read up on plants

You might want to consider fish that stay a bit closer to the bottom than the two schooling fish you have. There will be a lot of activity at the top and bottom with your current plans, but not much in between.

Sounds good, though. You probably won't be overstocking with your fish selection.

Welll - at first I was considering Diamond Tetras instead of the hatchet fish. Any suggestions on shoaling fish that are mid to lower level that are also non-aggressive to tankmates?
