Hi everyone wondering if any of you can help me decide on the type of fish to keep in my new tank.

I have a 4ftx2ftx2ft tank which is running the following equipment

Eheim 2229 wet & dry filter
2 x visitherm 300watt heaters
1 x 42" flourecent lighting
1 x 42" blue flourescent lighting (moonlight effect)
1 undergravel heater

with regards to equipment does anyone think that i will need to add any airstones to the setup??

i already have 2 angel fish approximately 4" in length which i am currently keeping in a seperate 2ftx18"x15", after quarantine they will be moved into the larger tank. The large tank is heavily planted with around 50 different varieties. I want the tank to be a community incorporating some that species of fish upto about 30cm in length i.e 1 or 2 plectos for example but i need some advice on other species that i can happily add to the community. i was orginally thinking of some varieties of chiclids as well as some different varieties of gouramies. would this work or would the chiclids prove to be too agreesive??

well if anyone can suggest some tank mates it would be very much appreciated.

below is a picture of my tank before the addition of plants as you can see at the moment there is no rocks in the setup so no caves etc which might mean that chiclids wont be very happy but i'm not sure.

Angelfish are cichlids so that's your cichlids done. They don't need rocks. The plants will suit them perfectly. They'll be fine with a couple of moonlight gouramies OR a three-spot male OR a trio of three-spots. A medium-sized schooling fish like the scissortail rasbora would do well with them as well as a plec. I'd stick to just one as plecs are generaly territorial (depending on species) so the bigger oens need their own space. I actualy think getting a few bristlenoses or something similarly small to medium-sized would be a better choice.

If you were thinking about other cichlids, things like german blue/gold rams, bolivian rams, possibly kribs, keyholes, various apistos and other neotropical dwarf cichlids would work but only keep a couple of pairs all in all (except if they need to be in a trio) as, with the angels in there as well, you don't want to over-do it (I'm assuming they are a pair) and you will still have room for plenty of other fish. None of these cichlids need the rock structures required by, for example, mbuna, and are quite peaceful. They should be fine in your tank with lots of plants and some hiding places. Ask in the new world cichlids section for more info (except the kribs which are african).

BTW, how many gallons is your tank?
