As you might know I got a 20g tank with one goldfish that i am rehousing. I have removed all ornaments and fake plants. Tank stats are good. Just waiting for other tank now to transfer goldfish.

What i would like to know is can i put tropical fish in tank and then put real plants in at a later date or should i plant it up first?

im sorry should this question be in the planted section? im not too sure.

Id suggest planting it up first and establishing that they are heatlhy.

There's no reason to cause the fish extra stress by
1. not giving them anywhere to hide for ages
2. suddenly disturbing them and mixing around the water, causing anything at the bottom or in the gravel to be stirred up
3. creating a mini nitrogen cycle if lots of plants die and are made into excess ammonia

The third usually will not happen in an established tank but with a new tank you have to be very careful not to upset the fragile balance.
