I want to start a new setup in a 30"x12"x12" tank. I want to start it with some tiger barbs, Green tiger Barbs, Tinfoils barbs, an albino pleco and just wondering what type of layout to apply to it and if there are any other fish i can add. if any has any pics of a typical or good setup i could use a guide line then please post them. thank you

the tinfoil barbs will grow to big for that tank you know.

also i would go with as much open space as possible as you have a lot of open water swimmers in the barbs, but have somewhere for the plec to hide.

:good:

yeah thought about the tinfoils me self but i can transfer them to my 4ft if they get too big. got a little cave for the pleco to hide in.

was thinking of having a rocky area and a planted area if it would look any good or will they just rip the live plants up.

quite similiar to my tank

i have green tigers regular tigers and blue tigers
i wanna get some albino tigers

i also have a rtbs

and 2 cobalt blue dwarf gouramis

the tinfoil barbs will grow 14inches, do you know what sort of plec it is?

i think your idea about the rocky and planted area would work.

Albino plecs sold in LFS are generally liposarcus pardalis (common plec - often seen mislabelled as hypostomus punctatus, count the dorsals to be sure as liposarcus have 11-14, hypostomus have 5-8 ) in either "true" albino (pinky yellow) or the rusty coloured chocolate albinos.

There are also albino gibbies going around at the moment.

Both species grow to up to 2ft (the common sometimes exceeding that), so I wouldn't recommend them for your tank. This week alone I've seen two different ones on ebay at 18".

Albino bristlenoses grow to about 5" and might be a better idea? They're a bit lovely if you like albinos.

Thanks for the replys. The albino pleco is only about 3 1/2" long. I've got the tank setup already it been through the cycle stage and put the albino in the other day, just waiting on putting the barbs in but not sure of how many of each sort.

The albino pleco looks like the one on my avatar but an albino of course. What do the blue tigers look like they dont have them in my LFS.

so a gibby plec then? growing to 18inches?

way to big for your tank IMO

:good:

Yeah i guessed it would out grow the tank but shouldn't happen for a couple of years. thinking of getting the barbs this week as im off week, so just wondering how many of each colour would be comfortable in the tank?

kind of a bad pic but you can tell what im talking about

GOD!!!! i didn't know plecs grew that fast. Once the tinfoils get to big i'll either buy a bigger tank or sell them to my LFS and start again with them or something different, but i think it'll be a bigger tank everytime (but dont tell the missus)

Them tigers look wicked, cant wait to get them now.

Another question here: what other apart from gravel can i put down on the bottom of the tank in my 4ft as i'm bored with gravel(its medium to larger pieces). It the tank is 2 plecs(one is 8") pictus, 3 other catfish but dont know the names, 3 clown loach, 6 tinfoils barbs, i'm using a fluvel 305 external filter and an air stone in the tank?

sand?

but if you don't get rid of the tinfoil's before they grow to big they will be stunted.... same with plecs

:good:
