i have seen a tank i want to get but could i put it on my existing stand?

new tank 39.5inch Length x 15.5inch Depth x 15.5inch Height

old stand 36 inch x 12 inch

the overhang concerns me, it means that the entire base of the tank is not supported. I wouldn't risk it.

I've heard of people putting a large piece of wood on top of the stand to support the overhang. I'm not advocating this, but it's an option you may wish to research.

yep - that would do it, but the wood needs to be thick enough to not bow - no point putting a 3mm sheet of plywood across it as it wont add any support.

thanks all,

so do u think chip board, hardboard, osb, plywood or mdf? and how thick?

Plywood would be best - 2cm minimum. Don't go for chip board because it can break up if it gets wet. MDF would have to be a good thickness because you can't use anything bendy. Personally I would use a very thick ply.

Also consider the time an aquarium is going to stand there.
Preferably a long time :hyper: ...

So maybe go look for a cheap new stand? one that fits your interior AND aquarium?

You won't have to switch then in case anything goes haywire
