I got a new tank today. I put the sand in, hooked the filter up,them temperature thing set, everything...

Fill it, including a stress coat.
I then put my old filter media into the filter.

I start by putting my tetra in. I then catch my dragon goby and put him in.

Five minutes later, I'm two glowlights dead.
i put the tetras back in, and left the dragon goby in. He's still fine.
Then i put my common pleco

You should of let the tank settle for a few days, what s was the temp of the new tank and ph, and did you climatise them.

the temp is at 78 or 79

I do not know the ph..... :X But i did use a stress coat

And what does climatize mean?

I attempted to clone the tank, by taking the media from the old tank and putting it into the new one.

That did not go well i take it. The old media is back in the 10 g so as to keep the old one going with what tetra i have left and the shrimp.....

The new tanks will have to cycle now....

uh.... like.... 4-5 inches i think now. why?

Did you fill the new tank up with all new water, and did you match the temp of the new tank to the old tank before you added the fish, never add fish to tanks that don't match in ph and temp they will go into shock and die.

the different temperature might have done it? I'm not sure....

A big difference in tempreture yes can do it, it like putting us in a hot bath then straight to cold it causes shock and stress, sorry we all sometimes have to learn the hard way, let the temp get established and leave the tank for a few days.
Then take a ph sample to make sure you are matching the ph from the old tank to the new, good luck.

Sounds like a climatization issue. You should always bag up your fish and float it in the new tank for at least 30 mins. Then slowly add a cup of water to the bag every 15 mins for an hour and then net the fish out of the bag and into the new tank. If you don't perform this process they can go into ph/temp shock and die or become seriously ill.

thank you all.... that is probably what happened.... My dragon goby keeps lying on his side....

probably not a good sign, and i keep thinking he's dead, but each time i try to net him he goes crazy and zooms around...

I keep fearing the next time he won't move though.... :-(

I will just add I did a cloning cycle from a ten gallon to a 32 gallon and the cycle didn't work. The small amount of filter media to clone most likely wouldn't help. So perhaps the cloning didn't work.

yeah. I was trying a 10 to a 38 and failed. So i'm going to get giant danios to do a fish cycling. a group of 6 probably, and let all my fish back to overcrowd in the 10....
