New tank new to Cichlids

hey well im buying cichlids tomarrow and im starting a new tank, right now im buying convicts, and i think Think(heh i never looked at the names just that they were cichlids and there colors) gold rams(looked at another topic's name) and orange rams maybey? they were both bright yellow and bright orange, very kool i also want some of them neat looking striped ones and others witch is why i want a link to a gallery that has all diff types...

anyways i know little about these so tell me the basics kk? i know about fish, ive had quite a few but if i do got probs ill come here(ive asked here before about piranha, witch i never did get heh)

also can i put pahcosamus puhcosamus sp? in with them? i know giant pahcosamus's should be fine right(my dad had them in w/ his cichlids) but ive got fairly small ones, will they get too picked on/eaten?

umm oh oh i got a 10gal tank right now(small i know but these fish are from a pet store so there small too) BUT im looking at a 40gal tank tomarrow and a 29 or 20 gal tank... im not sure where imma put the cichlids yet but for the next few days there going in my 10gal

oh oh id really like a link to a gallery with all the cichlids before tomarrow

oh the bright yellow ones i was told were super aggrisive but that they should be ok w/ convicts and the orange ones

oh oh should i use feeder fidh from a pet store(i read on here they might cause diseases) or minnows from my creek outside?

i figure i can put the minnows in a tub(witch i have before, just like a fish tank but w/ pastic walls) and only feed them the good ones that live past a week...

i really wanna feed them minnows so tell me what i gotta do to do that...

but for the very beginning imma use feeder fish, but that will only be for the first 100 or so life feed they have

i wouldnt put cons and rams together man if the cons have babies the rams would get chased around the tank and might even die

well if i have a link to a gallery(or atleast a link to orange and gold cons) id tell you for sure if those were the fish or not heh like i said i just know they were cichlids and were very bright

well i just bought a 40gal tank for 39$ i also got my cichlids(but there in a 10gal tank right now, will move to the 40gal soon)

they are 2 convicts
2 gold lab (not gold ram as in my first post)
3 red lab (well there actually a possible mix breed, they had red lab's in the next tank for 6.99 and these ones for 4.99 and they looked exactly the same, the sales lady said that they are in there because they could be mixed breeds)
and 3 plecostomus(im looking on the recept to spell correctly heh)

im also gonna ask a mod to move this to the african cichlid forum see'ing how they are african not new world, but i think the convicts are new world, oh well

would a full 40gal tank be able to be held on a dresser? i dont got a stand

Not a problem if it's a sturdy dresser.

how many pounds do you think a full 40gal tank is? i know the dresser can hold 180lbs(me) w/o the slightest problem

i heard that a tank weighs about 8.3 pounds per gallon so that is about 332 pounds i'm sorry. this could be wrong but that is what i heard.
