I Have a used jewel rekork 70 and I am hoping to be able to grow some good plants and make it look as natural as possible. I know ppl on here are very good at it. Before I start putting anything in my tank i would like to know where to start to get a natural looking tank. Starting with: sand or gravel? Do i need to use compost or whatever? I aint the been in this business for too long, to let you know. The tank only has one 15W bulb too.
Cheers

Hello! I curiously have been wandering over here form the SW forum down below :)

I set up my 3 gallon tank with a sand/gravel substrate which I think looks absolutely amazing! It gives it a nice "river bottom" look and keeps my plants firmly in place. If you are going to be using high demanding plants, you should definitely think about using some sort of bottom soil. It all just depends on the plants and look you are going for. Any idea of what kind of plants you would be using? Maybe that could give us a better idea.

Can I suggest you read the pinned threads, they'll answer most of your questions and raise a whole load more! On the sand or gravel fount, its personal choice, both are fine.

Dont have a scooby to what plants to keep really, just anything really. I just go into the lfs and say ill have that one, suppose that probably aint the right way to do it. Think ill buy 25 plants from ebay, these ones: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25-LIVE-TROPICAL-AQU...1QQcmdZViewItem
As for sand and gravel think ill go for sand seen as though i have gravel in my other tank. I'll have a look at the other threads just thought you could help me directly.
Cheers
