Howdy.

Currently have a 35L (9 US Gal) tank, and will be upgrading to a 80L (21 US Gal). It will be a Juwel Rekord 80 with built in filter in the corner. So its over twice as big.

I plan to take the media out of my current filter and put it in some sort of bag, similar to those you put in a washing machine when adding a tablet, in order to prevent it from being loose and floating everywhere. Iv also just added some seachem matrix to my dads canister filter, as i think that will be a good source of getting more bacteria.

So, when i get my tank, within a month or so, i plan to open up the new filter and remove the new media that will be in it. I will then remove the seachem matrix filter media out of my filter and my dads canister filter and put it into my new filter. Also i will cut some sponge off my new filter, and put the sponge off my Elite Stingray filter into it, possibly also cut a bit of my dads sponge out because his has been running longer.

Will this allow me to do a straight swap of everything into the larger tank without a problem? Just i will not have the space to keep two tanks in my room for days upon end. I plan to do the transition over a few hours (obviously have to set up my new tank when i get it). I will also be planning to put the majority of my old tanks water into my new tank, in order to cause as little stress/change in water conditions upon my fishies.

This a good plan?

Needing confirmation.

I would get the new tank set up and running for 24hrs to allow the temp to even out. Then transfer the filter media from the various tanks into the new filter (ideally with the new media aswell if you have room). Then transfer the fish (best to acclimatise them like when you get them home from the shop). Keep an eye on your results for a few days and maybe a water change of days 3, 6 and 9.

I plan to warm the water to the desired temperature before adding it to the tank. Usually add cold water to a bowl, add boiling water from a kettle, get it to the desired temperature and then add the conditioner.

Getting the tank on Thursday :D Went into LFS and looked around, they had every Juwel tank either side of the one i wanted (Rekord 80), and thought damn typical. Went to counter coz i saw some boxes in the back, asked if they had one and he said he'd never heard of it, looked at his brochure and said oh yeah didnt even know they did that, and ordered one for me :D Nice man.

Just as well because i have some small Clown Plecos in my 10 gallon who are comfortable atm. I know they need a minimum of 25 gallons and mines only a little bit off (3 or so gallons), but the tank is more longer rather than taller, and since most my fish are bottom dwellers then it fits the bill perfectly.

I shall be leaving the media in my dads tank for a month or so in order for bacteria to form on it, then il be chucking it in my filter because my Pleco's will be getting larger and producing more poop.

Keep you informed :)
