I bought a 10 gallon tank from Petco, but it dosen't have a lid. I bought a peice of plexi glass and cut it to fit my tank then my light sits on top of that. My problem is that the plexi glass is bowing in the middle. Also like most people money is tight.

Does any one have any other solutions that they have used that work or other ideas. I'd like to hear anything anyone has. Thanks

My lfs ordered me a plastic vacuum formed lid for a few pounds..but I am in th UK so that probably doesnt help you much.Sorry.

You can buy a glass canopy at some place like Petsmart or Petco for under $10

If you have a Home Depot or Lowe's or the like in your area, they sell glass meant for picture frames. You can buy a sheet and have it cut to fit on top of your tank. And as mentioned, the glass lids for 10 gallon tanks only run around $10. If the Petco there doesn't carry them, check any other shops that sell fish or reptiles, see if they carry them.

My cusin had the same problem we asked the guy at our LFS and he recomended to use the wier tops. Like the kind you use for lizards or snakes. It works great and it was onlt $6.50 not bad in my opinion. You could always look online you can get some good deals there.

The wire tops are a problem with fish because the paint tends to peel off and they rust. I had this problem with my frog tanks. :/

The glass tops they sell can be a problem too. I use several of them on my 20 gallon tanks with no problem, but the glass is thicker than the ones they make for the 10 gallon tanks. I had several 10 gallon tops crack when my cat jumped on them.

Your best bet might be to look for used equipment. Even if it's used, a quality hood is a good investment.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I think I'll go try and find a pre-made lid, I'll find one somewhere. The milk crate idea sounds great, we'll see what I come up with.
