Hi to all,

I'm planning a new aquarium for Amazonic or Disc fishes (I'm not sure yet) but could serve as a reef tank too (I think)

This is an "out of scale" scheme on what I'm planning:

I want to use a Sump but it is impossible to locate it under the tank thus I thought to use it aside the tank.

The front is a 2 m single glass and the aquarium would be 1,5 m leaving 50 cm for the sump.
The side glasses would be 45 wide x 40 Height

The water drain (water in) is doing by a hole made on the division glass and it has a hole to connect the water pump (water out).

The sump design itself is not draw in my scheme but would be a "standard" 3 section sump.

Another idea could be the same but in the tank's rear.

In this way, the entire tank front is visible. The glass dividing the tank would be black glass to hide the filter.

One advantage of this design is that I don't need a siphon because the water is entering the sump with a cascade effect.

In your opinion, would be effective this design?

Thanks for your commentaries and opinions.

Best regards.
Marcelo.

The second drawing with the 'sump' at the back will look 10 times better, although i'm not sure it's really necessary. What benefits are you expecting from having a sump like this?

Hello backtotropical thanks for your answer.
What I want to avoid is any external filtration systems as canisters, hand on, biowheel, etc. With the sump I can put the mechanical and biological filtering well ordered inside it. Also the thermostat would be installed in there.
The sump would be divided by vertical glass walls with sponge, nylon fiber and Arlite on the compartments and a pump as a return system.

Also the water changes would be very easy: Stop pumping, change the sump water and turn on the pump again.
Only one hole would be visible in the aquarium.

But I have some doubts i.e. I don't know what could happen with the CO2 due to the cascade effect.

What do you think?

Thanks.
