Hi guys,

I moved my fishies into their new home today, but tbh they look lost now - We've had a lot of deaths recently - apparently from nothing more sinister than age.. But they are settling very nicely into the new tank so I'd like ideas on what to add. I want colour and Interesting behaviour please!

Currently in our tank (Juwel 190l corner tank, sand substrate, live plants, over 5x filtration, lots of wood)

1 - Angel fish - currently about 1" from nose to base of tail.
7 - Cherry Barb
2 - Diamond Neon Tetra
7 - Peppered Cory
2 - Clown Plec
2 - Dwarf Frogs

Any ideas? (we're in a hard water area if that makes any difference)

You'll want to get at least 4 more of the diamond neon tetras. Other than that I'm not sure as I'm not very good at working out stocking numbers yet. :c

Unfortunately, angelfish are notorious for picking off neon tetras when they are full grown :( So I would suggest returning those guys and maybe trading in for a different, larger type of tetra or barb. I would suggest to stay away from the nippy barbs, though, because they will chase your angelfish. Also be very careful that the frogs you have are truly "dwarf" otherwise the fish will start to disappear quickly once the frogs are large enough to eat them. If they really are dwarfs, then the angelfish may pick on them when it grows up. I also believe 190L is = to 50G so you still have plenty of stocking room. I would up the barb count to ten, maybe get another school of gold barbs in there? I think the red and yellow would go well together, but that's just me.

^ He makes a very good point. I don't know how I missed that. :/ Sorry.
Rainbowfish such as boesmani IIRC do well in hard water, though you want to make sure your tank is at least 4 feet long.

Hiya, thanks for the replies,

Frogs are definitely dwarf, we've had them over a year now iirc and they've barely grown, still only about an inch long!

I do love the neons, but it does concern me now that the Angel is growing. I'll probably not get more neons just because I don't want them to become food!

The tank is 28" along each side and 42" across the front, it's a large corner tank. Is that large enough for rainbows?

I'd considered killifish, but unsure how they'd be compatability wise.

I think I'd probably prefer one school of smaller fishies and then have larger more interesting ones iykwim.

what do we think of adding a Killifish (unsure which are territorial atm, but a peaceful one), a Gourami (one of those pretty blue and orange ones) and maybe a school of small fish... I'm thinking blue or yellow would be nice.

A - Would that work?
B - any suggestions on the small fish or type of killi?

Minimum length of tank I've seen recommended for rainbows is 48", so I'd think not, sorry :(

I'm unsure on the killifish. Most I know of are rather small so not sure how they'd do with the angel :/

Gourami and angel may or may not work, as they reside in the same area of the tank.

I'm not sure why you want a small schooling fish? They'd likely end up being eaten by the angel just like the neons.
You want something bigger or deeper bodied in order for it to be safe. I'm not sure what to suggest though.

Sorry I've been pretty much no help D: Hopefully someone with more experience will be along to help you out on some ideas.

Ah, when I said small schooling fish I meant more cherry barb and bigger lol, not going for tiny again!
