Hi all,

I know I posted a while back about External Filters (which I didn’t get) but I’ve decided now is the time to go full out on a new tank. I’ve decided to get a Juwel Rio range tank I’m not sure about the size as of yet.

When I get the tank ill be getting the Juwel jumbo filter system (anyone have any insight on this filter?)

& also the heater and lights which come with the tank on purchase

My main question is, as this comes with an internal filter is it worth getting an external filter also and having two filters or is this overkill?

hi,
i've got the juwel Rio 400L and i added a eheim 2224 external to mine. the filter which came with the tank, although basic does a very good job, its just a bit messy when i clean it as lots of particles are released back into the water when i remove the sponges for cleaning

Okay so probs best to just get external then?

and sell the internal one?

ill be going with Eheim also but not sure which one to get of of yet

Can anyone reccomend a good website to buy Juwel tanks from also? the only place near me is pets at home!

could be as good a place as any. Most of their tanks are the just a little more than you pay online, which could make up for having to wait in for it to be delivered. (mine was a pain :p could be 8 til 3 or something. and the cabinet and tank came in two different delivery vans)

Well all ive managed to get what I wanted and that was a Juwel RIO 180L with heater, filter, and lights & stand. For £160 the only down side was that it was a display tank (but brand new ofc) and had ornaments and sand inside which they gave me also :D but I’ve decided to take out the sand as I cant stand the stuff.

was it that cheap because it was the display model? rio 180 usualy go for £200+ i thought?

Ex display means it was used in the store, but normally well looked after :good:

Some sit there with just ornaments ect in, and never filled.

Hi, external filters are really good, especially if you are keeping big messy fish eg. piranha, oscars etc. If you plan to keep a community aquarium with quite small fish, and not overstock your tank, IMO the cost of an external would outweigh the benefit. The Juwel filter is really quite good i found. :good:
