Fish Crazy
Hello everyone.
Sat at work on a morning shift, thought I’d pass my thoughts on to the members here!!
I'm just about to reach the first anniversary of my tank. After a break of nearly 7 yrs I decided to get another tank and see what the world of fish keeping has to offer these days.
Firstly, technology has come on a bit since I last kept fish. Electronic this and that, fantastic mass produces pumps that seem to be fit for the long slog of tank life, and the variety and availability of fish seem to have moved on too.
Anyway, as I said my tank (Fish R Fun GPS900 - 150ltr) is nearly one year old and the fish seem to be having a cracking time in their little world. I'm not overly impressed with the tank. Yes the fish are healthy, but the design and fact you have to buy there own products has pi**ed me off a bit. Of instance, over xmas I stick a timer on the lights whilst I’m away. Come back and find a bulb blown, not a problem, down to the LFS and choose a couple of new bulbs, only to find they don't fit and I have to use the 'Den Marketing' bulbs only. Not happy.
The filter is a pain, integrated into the hood seemed a great idea, until the bulb goes, then its filter out, life hood off, undo screws, change bulb etc.....
It also seems to lean forward a bit, it’s scared me everyday since I installed the tank!
Anyway it was decided between headquarters (the misses) and me that a new tank was in order. So off to my LFS (Botley Grange, Hampshire) to see what they have and get an idea of what might be the next tank for me. 1 hours later I leave with a Jewel RIO 240 plus stand and Fluval 305 in the back of the car! The tank was reduced to £235 so it was too good to say no.
I've set it up in its new home and filled with treated water. So far I have only used about 15% of my mature filter media as I need to keep the old tank going. Tonight I plan on adding quiet a few plants and transferring a load of gravel from old to new.
As soon as I have a few things worth taking a picture for I will post for everyone to see.
Look forward to being more pro-active with my posts on here!
