My brother wants to set up a new 30 gallon tank for a pair of convicts. now I have heard they are notoriously prolific and easy to breed, but is there anything special you need to do for this to occur? Also any other care tips for them? How do you sex them? I think the males are bigger and the females have orange bellies but is that all? Any additional info would be appreciated.

i am getting a pair from a friend to breed feeders. from what i understand all you need to do to get them to breed is put a male and female together. kinda like egg laying guppies

Ive been told the best way to breed cons is like this. Take one fully functional aquarium. Add male. Add female. Voila!

Its easy ...but not that easy :p ....First off ...the tank will have to be just for the cons as they will kill anything else in the tank once they start breeding...Cons are aggressive to begin with...add a female and some fry and there crazed!! Also i found that you should have some way of seperating them once they do spawn....I wait until i see free-swimming fry and then i seperate the two with a tank divider. Are you going to be using the fry for something? I know its cool to watch them...but if you dont ahve a way of getting rid of the fry you can run into problems with that aswell.....Hope i helped :)
