Hi all, as you can proberly guess from the title i am about to embark in the wounderfull world of tropical fish keeping. I have a 180lt tank which is new with external filter again new, i have put substrate for plants and a layer of fine gravel.
I have put filter start in and also added Denitrol to tank, i have used Biotopol in the water before adding the filter sart. filled the tank on saturday added the Biotopol. sunday added the filterstart and Denitrol 20ml.
the tank has a bacterial bloom i think, trolling on the internet there seens to be lots of opinions of what to do and iam geetting a little conserned about it.
the ph reading on  sunday was 6.0, will this be ok to as i really want to do a fishless cycle.
sorry if this has been asked before.
many thanks

What a fantastic site for newbies to get help and advice on setting up, i must admit though it did take a good while to troll through the pages of advice being offered to your post.I'm new also, wish i could help but don't have the expertise sorry

Try not to worry about the bacterial bloom, there is nothing in your tank to damage, and it certainly wont hurt any beneficial bacteria you are trying to grow in your filter. Do 1 or 2 water changes if it gets pretty bad.
I am not sure about any of the products you have mentioned... a simply way to do it is just to add some good quality dechlorinater sufficient for the amount of tap water you add back to your tank after every water change.
A low PH can, and probably will, delay or interfere a fishless cycle.I live in notoriously soft water area, so have to take measures to maintain a ph of above 7.2... that type of PH (possibly more) is great to get that bacteria growing. Adding some crushed coral to your filter and/or tank would help you here.
What have you chosen to use as an ammonia soure during your cycle.
Finally, do you know of anyone with a healthy, mature fish tank?

Terry.

I suspect I'm wasting my time typing this, but there is no need to be sarcastic.

Please remember that this is a public forum which is free of charge for anyone to post on. All of the people who give advice do so without receiving payment, and they do so when they are able to do so, fitting this in around their busy "real world" lives. And until such time as people are asked for a fee, they have no right to demand or expect an answer.

It is a shame that the original post was missed. It is worth pointing out that if the original poster was so desparate for advice that it is perfectly admissible, under the rules of this forum, to bump the thread back to the top. But they did not do so.

If you take a look through the threads, particularly in this section, you will see that the vast majority of posts made by inexperienced fishkeepers are answered by a multitude of people. If you ever feel the need to ask questions of this forum, I am sure that you will be answered both quickly and thoroughly, although I have to say, I shall personally consider thoroughly whether to answer you at all.

I suspect you mean "trawl". However, quite an appropriate malapropism, in my humble opinion.
