New Tank - Fishless Cycle Problems

Hey,

If you have read my last topic then you know about my first water test results.
If not they were as follows...

PH - 7.8
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite NO2 - 0.50ppm
Nitrate NO3 - 80ppm

I got told to get Ammonia but I couldn't find it anywhere in the stores suggested!
So I went to the pet shop and they suggested adding a plant and also added Stress Zyme to the water.

I needed these items anyway so I got them.

I decided to change 25% of my tanks water also and tested the water before Putting in the Stress Zyme.

The results are as follows...

PH - 7.8
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite NO2 - 0.25ppm
Nitrate NO3 - 80ppm

Can anyone suggest anywhere else I may get Ammonia from to do the cycle... if not I may have to do the With fish cycle which I'm not really keen on doing, as fish may die...

Where did you go to try get the ammonia?

I wouldnt take advise from your lfs, most are just out to make money. The plant is a good addition but the stress zyme is a waste of money. What water conditioner do you use?

Hi Mate

I started to use Stress Zyme, but gave up in the end, cos all the only readings I had were
Nitrite = 1 ppm and Nitrate 40 ppm, this never changed at all, so now reverting to adding Ammonia

I found Household Ammonia in Boots, (Large store,) Also Homebase do it and I found that Amazon.co.uk
sell it as well, but a bit expensive... Your best bet is to try Boots

I wouldnt bother adding anymore Stress Zyme, just go with the Ammonia

I haven't got any water conditioner yet other than the sachet I put in one day 1... I'm on day 7 of my cycle now.

Do you suggest any particular brand I should go for...?

Im pretty low on cash at the moment so maybe its not a good time to be setting up my tank... but I have wanted to have my own fish for years! I'm already thinking about the next tank I want to get haha!

I'm glad Ive wasted money on stress Zyme though... *sarcastic face* hehe

I tried Boots and Homebase... and as soon as I spoke about fish they said they didn't have it... I would have looked myself but I haven't got a clue what I'm looking for...

Its in the house hold aisle, it is sold as a general purpose cleaner and can be used in laundry. It's best not to mention fish, just ask them where their houshold aisle is.

you could try ringing boots stores and checking, the sotre in leytonstone is quite small and had it, where as another larger boots did not, so a bit random with stock, i was googlin for an image of the bottle and hey they stock it online:

I will try and get to my boots store tomorrow and try to find it, if not I will have to order it online!
