I asked this question a month or so ago, but require further advice:

I plan to setup a tank (20 or 29 gallon) here at work. In preparation, I've testing the tap water here in the office. I tested (1) before treating with AmQuel and NovaAqua, (2) after treating, and (3) after 24 hours to allow for outgassing.

All tests at points (1), (2), and (3) agree. Here are the results:

GH = 3dH
KH = 9dH
pH = 7.6
Ammonia = 0
NitrItes = 0
NitrAtes = 0

I've already been told here and elsewhere that it is best to simply accept this water quality as is and simply get fish that like this water.

However, let's be hypothetical: Let's just suppose that I'm stubborn and really want to have a more neutral pH of about 7.0. Is it possible to do so with this water? Or, will I be forced to work with reconstituted DI or RO water?

Thanks!

Kelly

You could try using peat filtration and un soaked bogwood in the tank to reduce the pH and soften the water but IME this rarely works well as the water rebuffers its self at every water change creating a dangerously unstable enviroment for the fish. RO water is the better option but probably isnt practical in a workplace with just one small tank, youd either have to bring the water in with you or fit a unit in it work and waste masses of water.
The pH and hardness IMO are fine for all but the fussiest and most delicate of fish and changing it will just be making a lot of unnessesary hard work.
