Hi,

I've got a 4ft tank with a fluval 304 on it at the moment. I've just bought a new tank, downsizing to a 3ft, with it came a Rena Filstar XP3. What's the best way to get this cycled as quickly as possible? Will running it in the old tank as well as the old filter speed things up?

Cheers

Steve

If you pop your new filter in the old tank to help seed the media it will always help a new tank. Same as using some of the existing gravel as well :)

Thanks Jenny,

Got the filter running in the old tank now, not allowed to set up the new tank until christmas, it's a present! :D

Will it pick up enough bacteria in this time or will it still need to be cycled?

P.S. Are you the same Jennybugs as on VZi?

Cheers

Steve

Id just chuck the filter media into the new one and get an instant cycle, personal prefference :)

*Edit*

My typing is terrible :)

for sure it will work, use gravel as well, if u dontwant that kinda gravel in new tanks take a clean arge tuper ware container of old gravel and set it in ur new tank for a while......

Erm....guilty as charged  Dunno f it's a good thing to admit to or not? :hey:

...and what SJ2K says is also good to do...use part of your old sponge/media from an established filter in your new one :D
