So my current 100cm x 35 x 45 setup is cycling...

it will be ready by next weekend with a bit of luck, and ive started choosing my inhabitants carefully as suggested by members already due to the small(ish) size of the tank...

so here are some of my choices, would appreciate your thoughts on the selection and maybe some pointers if I clearly have chosen any innapropriate species for this tank, also some idea of what order if any they should go into the tank!!

* - Neolamprologus brichardi - first fish that really got me thinking i want some of these cichlids, striking colours and body shape and currently in stock at one of my lfs... was thinking possible 2 females to 1 male, totalling 3 of this species..

* - Lamprologus ocellatus - big fan of yellow coloured fish and this fiesty little sod seems like an ideal species to exist with a swimmer (above)? bit unsure of numbers with this, maybe look at my other choices, some websites recommend 6 and let them form a harem, but could do with some pointers on this..

* - Cyprichromis leptosoma - looks like a good small alternative, possible only concern is swimming room but im not far off the recommended 120l for this species..

well thats it, maybe a catfish or two if things go well.. but im not a massive fan of them so if theres no room thats cool...

one other recommendation I need is for plants, my aquascape will consist of mostly rocks but I could with a few tall plants just to hide filters etc...
I obviously need high ph tolerant plants, so what do people suggest? i was thinking maybe corkscrew valis but im not sure on its keeping conditions...

thanks guys :) :good:

Neolamprologus Brichardi are beautiful fish but they can be incredibly aggressive, especially when they are breeding. Ideally, they would be best suited to a species only tank.
Lamprologus Ocellatus certainly are feisty fish but I found the male too aggressive and had to rehome them. I started out with one male and four females and he constantly chased three of the females which caused them to live behind the filter. I rehomed them and just kept a pair who bred a week later. The female was great at guarding her "shell" for four days until the male pestered her so much, that she too lived behind the filter.
In the end, I settled for two pairs of Neolamprologus Multifasciatus and they were fantastic. Although they aren't as colorful, they are great little fish.
I've not kept Cyprichromis so can't comment on tank size or behaviour.

Have a look at this site to get a better idea of stocking. They haven't got your exact tank size but it may help with ideas:
