bump, the same info would help. and if its true about the black spot on the tale could you be moew specific, I have a large female (purchased a week ago to go with my lyretail) with a black spot at top and bottom of tail and I've just noticed a smal black spot developing (may of always been there just didnt see it  ) right where the tail fin starts from the body)

its big just in front of the tail but just behind the top fin its on both sides but it seems the color is actually inside the fish i really hope shes pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the quick reply, just checked and the "dark area" is definetly under the surface (and my white female doesnt have anything similar so i guess its not muscle/bone or something else standard on all fish). I figure its probably not from my lyretail as the have only been together for a week :( , maybe next time

thanks again

Well bal it depends on how long you have had these fish. I mean you can't go out buy swordtails earlyer in the week and acspected the bigger fish is pregnate. One way you can tell if ther pregnate or already had fry just look in the tank or get a breeding tank and put the "pregnate" swordy in there. It may seem funny to move the fish to anouther tank just because its pregnate but it will keep most of your fry from dieing. Then when ther big enough put them back in to the main tank. Oh be sure the other fish you have in ther will not eat them or wait till they simpley not "bite size".

Sorry you lost a loved one at least its in a better place now.
