Almost a week ago I bought a couple of Sunset Gouramis (seem to be a male and a female) from Petsmart and everything seems fine except I have yet to see them eat anything
. The tank is fully cycled with a temperature of 78F. They seem happy/active (swim all around tank and plants/ruins and up and down the sides - probably see their reflection) and they love each others company (I rarley see them apart)
. They are so cute when they are facing each other and feeling each other with their "feelers" (forget what they're called) or swim a quick little circle (like a yin-yang)
.
What worries me is when I open the feeding area on the lid they swim and stay at the bottom and then ignore the food
. They no longer seem afraid of me in general, only when I open the lid to feed them. I've tried TretraMin tropical flakes, Topfin freeze-dried bloodworms, and even a few of my betta's Topfin betta bits. Yesterday I saw a feeding ring at Petco and have tried that (thinking if the food stayed in one place they would eat it), but they still ignore any kind of food I place in the ring (they just swim right by/under it). I have noticed the male nipping at the bottom of the tank and at the fake ruins I have in there, but the couple times he found food he seemed to be spit it back out.
I noticed in another post on this forum someone was asked the following:
1. Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects.
2. Check the gills over to see if they're red/inflamed or pale with excess mucas on them.
3. Is the fish thin or bloated.
4. What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
5. Check the anus to see if its red and inflamed or enlarged.
6. Does the fish spit the food out.
From the above I have noticed:
1. The male occasionally flicks against objects
2. Their gills are fine
3. Don't seem thin or bloated (though if they continue to not eat they will probably start to get thin)
4. The last time I saw one go to the toilet it was white (thought it was becasue they haven't been eating, so nothing really to poo)
5. Anus seem fine (as best I can tell)
6. As I mentioned before the couple times I saw the male find food that was on the bottom he did seemed to just spit it back out
If anyone could please give me some ideas on what I could do to get them to eat I would appreciate it very much. I don't want them to die!
