ive found sum stuff that came with my tank sum cycle stuff whats meant to kill most of amonia and nitrite.1 cap full per week is this any good?its called cycle treatment or shud i not bother putting it in your help please

NO!

if it kills ammonia and nitrite you dont want it!

Well, depends really.. Cycle stuff is supposed to seed the bateria in order to convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate, but most of these solutions are not so great at doing this and have limited effects.

So.. these can be good for kicking off the cycling process if you are just starting the tank, but if your tank is cycled and up and running, then good filter maintenance and water changes should do the trick without the need for adding this kind of stuff to the tank.

well no it doesnt depend. If the stuff kills off the ammonia and nitrite then the bacteria will die from not getting fed.

I've never used it since so i have no idea what it does. But it can;t help seed the bacteria unless it was being fed and kept alive

It does depend.. Some cycle stuff is there to help the bacteria be introduced and provide the colony, it depends on what it is."CYCLE" stuff does not kill the bacteria and will not be a negative contribution to a cycling tank. Stuff like bio-spira in the states and bactinettes in the UK provides a seed of benefitial bacteria. His description was just missleading.

EDIT: if it is nutrafin Cycle, i'm not convinced on how effective it is, but it will do no harm!

You are right however in saying that it has to be fed and kept alive. This is achieved in some products through providing food in the solution it is kept in and by decent refrigeration. I think we agree on this bit, hence my comment about some of them being of no real help in most circumstances.

But.. an outright NO is incorrect in my opinion, as it does depend on exactly what it is!!!

Hi

I use Nutrafin Cycle in my tank it says on teh fornt that it has beneficial bacterial which consumes ammonia and nitrate to prevent fish loss. It also repairs filter damage by medication or other filters. I too am not convinced it actually does anything, i bought it with the tank to help it cycle but it has never done any harm. I tend to use it when I add some new fish just in case it does help.

same ere mate my lfs swears by it but i only have a few drops left as its a weekly thing i think they only give u a bit so u buy more but if ur tank is cycled i diont see point in putting it in
