New tank and so far all is well [except for lighting] Got my Co2 running at 30ppm during lighting hours and let it drop to just above 20 when lights are off - this has been trial and error process with a solenoid on a timer, the flu and Ph monitor [Wife thinks I'm mad checking the read out every hour through the day]
Started the tank off with a original java fern from old tank and various bits of bogwood, the rest of the plants were a 48" selection from Java - this was just to get started with. Also had some grass that I swapped over but it's hopeless at growing so it's out of there soon enough.
Here's a very rough photo shot taken just after I'd finished planting etc hence the floating pieces

What I'd like to do now that I have a little stability within the tank is add some plants that would suit the requirements below

A = A highish carpet type plant that could live under the shade of the fern- hopefully some form of grass
B = Once again a carpet but lower growing than A and since it's out of the shade light shouldn't be an issue
C = Tall growing plant to offer shade to the fern - something that grows over the top would be good, can be small leaved and don't want to distract from the fern as this will act as the lead in
D = Carpet - Short grower would be good although will be looking to step this into the bogwood
E = Strong growing med height bush type plant, pref large leaves such as the plant that is growing through the bogwood behind
F = Tall grower - med to large leaves to create a surroud for the wood
No clue as to what to put into the middle yet although am thinking of using low running moss hills accross the back to create a perception of depth to the middle.
Tank size is a 48x15x18 with eco complete and volcanit mix - 3 55W daylight +'s running a 10 hr shift with 2 hr siesta
Co2 @ 30ppm during lighting
PH 6.6
KH 4
Dosing nitrate and Po4 - Nitrates over 5 but below 20 - I hate chemical tests
Waiting on a new Po4 test kit but it's over 1ppm
Stocking at the moment
1 clown loach - Lost buddies along the way in the last tank and not replaced yet but intend to go for a couple more cause I love them
1 Black molly - Scum buster
1 Sword tail
10 horrid platies that keep breeding all the time
These really must go as I have a strong dislike for them
1 Amano shrimp - Just lost his mate after tank switch
Chances are that by the time I finish this post I'll have another platy
Master plan is to have stock that actually work for their food and not just breed because they can!
Since I've just started to OD on Excel I dont want to add any new plants to the tank and would rather wait till the 2 weeks is out, after that I will be looking to change things around.
Any ideas on what type of plants might work for my plan?
Thanks for any advice given even down to what to do with those baby machines!!
