New Species Of Catfish !

Was setting up my new 70 Gallon tank yesterday and got it all filled with water, filter working nicely, thermostat adjusted perfectly, sand all rinsed and in situ,bogwood in position, etc etc.

I was just admiring my work whilst tweaking the position of the spray bar, and spotted Barney,one of our cats, sitting on the top of the TV, eyeing up the tank (as he is a great lover of fish).
Next thing I know he has leapt up, over the top of the tank and straight into the water. I think it was as much as a shock for me as for him. He was clearly expecting a lid to be present ! I swiftly fished out the very sodden moggy, who then proceeded to wash himself for the next 30 minutes. I don't think it has cured him of his love for fish though as he is, at this moment, fast asleep on the lid of my 20 Gallon.

I really had planned for my Cory's to be the first catfish in the tank. Barney had other ideas.

Anyone else had pets who have got a bit too close for comfort and into the tank ?

Haha. I had a black fluffy cat when I was younger that stepped on the the frozen pond outside and fell in. He quickly clambered out!

My kitten used to try to catch my cory catfish by putting his paw behind the tank. Silly mog.

Haha. I often find my older sister walking into my room, and looking at my tank. If that counts

I came in one afternoon last summer to find my partner doing the dishes in the kitchen, and my daughter standing on a dining chair with the fish net dipped into the tank trying to catch my dinner

Ouch !! A parrot could chip the glass (or it's beak) I reckon.

I actually have to keep my bedroom door shut to keep my cat away from the fish. I only have a 5.5 gallon tank and it can't support her weight. One time I left it open for 5 minutes and walked in my room and there she was, positioned perfectly on the lid staring at me. I had to move in slow motion so she wouldn't suddenly dash and possibly knock the lid into the tank. Last I need is an electrocuted cat and fish.

We have a 10 gallon with turtles and goldfish in the kitchen she likes. She also paws at a fish bowl hanging on the wall upstairs.

my cats are intrigued by any tanks I have sitting on the floor. They ignore the rest of them. They are not allowed on top of the fish tanks and they know it, so I don't have issues with that.

I think we have established that keen aquarists can come in many different species, and not just human !!

actually shes really small for a parrot, so she cant do much than spook the fish, then laugh about it, and repeat.

We have a 10 gallon with turtles and goldfish in the kitchen she likes. She also paws at a fish bowl hanging on the wall upstairs.
