i hope this is posted in the right place!

i am starting up a 20 gal long for female bettas, some danios and corys (i think)

i have never set up a tank piece by piece, as i inherited all the set ups i have (other than the bettas). i am not sure what i need for this set up.

i am looking for guidelines for gallons per hour and wattage for filters and heaters, etc. also any brand recommendations would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

just go to the place you get the gear from you know the gals of you tank on every packet of heater it will tell you how many liters it will heat start at the smallest heater and work your way to the bigger ones until you find the one that will heat 20 gal of water same with the filters you want a filter that will cycle you whole 20 gal every hour and you will have a cystal clear tank but make sure there isnt going to be a massive flow of water in the tank or you will be imitating a small river system lol

should be in the hardware forum too but you may get more of a relp here

75 watt heater I'd think.
And aren't zebra danios a bit nippy for bettas?

Edit :: GPH for a filter.. try to go for ten times the tank volume for the best effect. An Aquaclear 200/50 will do that perfectly for a 20g. I use one on my 15 gallon.

thanks for the help!!

i am on the fence about the danios. i have 4 in my 10 gal (LFS advice for cycling, before i knew better) and i want to give them a better home with room to swim. so i wanted to put them in the 20 gal. i could just do the female bettas in the 10gal, but i was hoping they would coexist in the 20. i still don't even have the 20 yet, so we are still in the hypothetical!!

(but i am picking it up on saturday!!!!)

whenever you are ready to add fish to your 20, just take a piece of media from your 10 and put it in your filter on your 20

stocke lightly and add a few fish every week.

you won't need to cycle it

i may do the bettas in the 10 gal, but then i won't see them as much, because the tank will be on the lower shelf....hmmm....
