? New Set-up For Betta

Hi...
I'm new to this fish stuff, but...I'm thinking about getting a betta for my Aqua Tech Hex 5 ( lookings like a stop sign ). I have it all set up, my question....everybody talks about cycle the tank, would I need to do this for a 5 gallon tank?

all tanks should be cycled no matter what the size but tanks with the right treatment can be done in a week or so...
