How hard would this be to do? Ideally I would like to do it with no co2 but I dont mind dosing ferts. Any ideas and help welcome.

That would be hard to do without C02 IMO. To get a carpet like that needs CO2, good ferts and even better flow. There are ways around the non C02 though, carpets can be done without. Take for eg, Riccia, this is a quick and easy carpet and wont need C02. As for the scape itself, i think it's obviously do-able, however, i would love to see someone new to plants be able to pull something like this off.

I do have a planted tank at the moment that was semi successful. How about flourish excel instead of the pressurized co2. I agree riccia is easy.

wow!!! thats just stunning. in my dreams my planted tanks look like that . in reality they always looked like council wastelands

^ I now exactely what you mean! All of the one on the tropica website look brill but it is so hard to get, even the pros on here cant do it that good.

i'm sure most of us are as good as the beginner section on the tropica website! lol

The scape linked to is pretty easy to do. Finding the wood a little harder. The pruning technique used there is not overly difficult and some is quite bushy. Technically its not in the upper reaches of difficulty. Like me its simple but very pretty. lol

However like Ian says CO2 would make it that much easier. Without it would be 10 to 20x harder. Trying to get all the plants to grow, waiting for some to grow whilst having to prune others and carpets are almost (almost not totally) impossible to do without CO2 and even with CO2 the circulation and flow has to be absolutely spot on.

For the level of aquascaper that created that scape it would be easy. For a novice it would not be impossible but pretty hard. Like many things in life it is made easy by the knowledge and skill of the scaper there.

Definately do-able though for anyone really. Just forget the carpet and try a more transitional midground to foreground with a bare substrate at the very front.

Gosh. I'm not even going to dream about that, it's too out of my league! I may have a planted tank that looks half as good as that one time though...

might have a go then. gonna try and scav a co2 fire extinguisher of somebody and get the parts over time.
