Bought a german blue ram yesterday - a female as i already have a male. Its about 30 mins from the store to home, so when i got her home i floated her for 30 mins (after opening bag and putting new air in it for oxygenation purposes). Checked temp had equalised, then released her using the reccomended acclimatisation methods. Noticed she was breathing fairly fast, i guessed it was stress, and turned air up a bit. She interacted well with the existing ram, and i turned lights out at 8pm (early) so she could destress.
This AM i woke to find her in the same way, breathing fast. Fed the rest of the critters, and went to work.
Just got bake to find her dead. She was very malleable so had just very recently passed away.
Im sure i did everything right, if not then can someone tell me? Im a little peed off as i cant get to the store this week and they want a water reading. I tested and water condition is normal - which is very good. All other fish in good health.

So i went to a more local fs and tried to order some blue rams.
"never heard of them" he says. "I can get red and golden. Or czecoslovakian."
"what are they"? i replied.
Theyre very similar in looks but have a large dark patch down either side, covering half of the irridescent blue that the blue rams have. It just annoyed me that i know im right yet he thinks theyre czech rams and german blues or blues dont exist.

Just a miffed off rant.........

yeah i was going to delete the other one in the emergency forum, as this really isnt an emergency. But the conversation go goin in that one :)

Dont know what one to kill

That's where I saw it first - so replied to that one. But yes, technically speak it's not an emergency :)

Perhaps you should find another shop to use that know the difference between Rams ?

No can do (on your own). If you really want to: pm a mod :)

When a new fish dies in the 5 days after purchase, doesn't your LFS replace it? Big Als does, but you have to bring a water sample as well. Given that your other fish are doing well, shouldn't have been a problem.

I know this topic is pretty much dead, but I wanted to make a point regarding what Riche_guy posted.

That the rest of his fish are "doing alright" does not prove that his water was definitely alright, all too often (and I dont mean in your case Spiceweasel since you have stated that you tested the water fine ;) ) People come charging back to the shop when their new fish popped it's clogs rather rapidly after being placed into their tank. Their reasoning being that since the rest of their fish are alive and well then it must be someone elses fault, then you test the water... Fish can often get used to even the most putrid water if it becomes that way over a long period of time with the fish present throughout.

As for the initial problem, it sounds to me like a good old fashioned case of bad luck, sorry to hear about it :(
