Bought a german blue ram yesterday - a female as i already have a male. Its about 30 mins from the store to home, so when i got her home i floated her for 30 mins (after opening bag and putting new air in it for oxygenation purposes). Checked temp had equalised, then released her using the reccomended acclimatisation methods. Noticed she was breathing fairly fast, i guessed it was stress, and turned air up a bit. She interacted well with the existing ram, and i turned lights out at 8pm (early) so she could destress.
This AM i woke to find her in the same way, breathing fast. Fed the rest of the critters, and went to work.
Just got bake to find her dead. She was very malleable so had just very recently passed away.
Im sure i did everything right, if not then can someone tell me? Im a little peed off as i cant get to the store this week and they want a water reading. I tested and water condition is normal - which is very good. All other fish in good health.

So i went to a more local fs and tried to order some blue rams.
"never heard of them" he says. "I can get red and golden. Or czecoslovakian."
"what are they"? i replied.
Theyre very similar in looks but have a large dark patch down either side, covering half of the irridescent blue that the blue rams have. It just annoyed me that i know im right yet he thinks theyre czech rams and german blues or blues dont exist.

Just a miffed off rant.........

then released her using the recommended acclimatisation methods
What method would that be ?

Did you add a bit of tank water to the bag every 10 minutes to adjust ph etc ? Or just equalised temperature and added fish to tank ?

Perhaps they use Gold Ram as their common name. Looking at this article it seems that might be the case - however, they really aught to know better.

Floated bag in the tank to equalise temp, and added 10ml every 10 mins..
I posted this in wrong forum - meant to be in chit chat as its not really an emergency as such. Have re posted it there will delete this one when i find out how

mmm odd- I would have guess it's pH shock, but if you added tank water whilst acclimatising, it shouldn't really be the case. It does however seem to point to some water problem.

Is this a new tank by any chance ?

7 months old. Very mature. Have had no fish die in that time. Im guessin the 30 min drive home may have stressed her, then the male chased her for a bit as he was a bit horny - never had a female in there before.............

OK, so it's not a new tank and unlikely to be a water problem / acclimatisation. Does your shop offer refunds or anything in return for a fish that died within 24 hours ? Most (good) shops will (on presentation of dead fish).

like i say - im not going to be able to get there for a week at least, so i didnt want to freeze the dead fish, its already taken a trip on the great white porcelain highway.
I wont argue the toss as the guy there is an arrogant numpty and we had a few words before. Its just been crossed off my lfs list.

honestly i dont think it was the 30 min. drive unless he was in a tiny tiny bag. i just picked up a bristlenose pleco from a friends house, we bagged it up, but then i stuck around chatting for 3 hours, then made the half hour drive home...he is doin great. it is possible that the male kill it, or somthing else in your tank.

Not really. No other fish took any notice of it other than the male ram. I dont think that would have killed it either. What about the fast breathing. Isnt that a sign of stress?
