New Project

Great looking tank and setup! From what I have read and seen it will suit Tropheus down to a tee! Also the colour of the rock is perfect. The one thing that I might add is that the blue background on the tank coupled with the white substrate will make the colouration of the fish seems washed out slightly. If it would be possible and not too much hassle I would recommend changing to a darker background to really show the fish off. All in all, a really nice sophisticated tank setup, keep up the good work and make sure to update!!

What is the ph of the water from your tap? and if it is low are you planning on using any particular buffer to bring it up? Also have you made any decisions on which spp of Tropheus you are thinking of keepinig?

To be honest changing the background colour is something i am considering, i have always had black and i love the way black gives a sense of depth. I put blue on because it was going to be a reef. I hear what you say about the fish becoming washed out, if it gets bad i will change the colour

The pH and of the water here is slightly alkaline at 7.8. The water is hard (yorkshire water ;) )

I am using caribsea aragamax sand which is a fine coral sand, this should buffer the water and maintain a steady kH and dkH.

As for the species of Tropheus? not sure as yet, i will be adding a couple of fish over the next few days (not Tropheus) to cycle the tank. Then i will be going up to Aqua Blue Zaire in peterlee, they have a wide selection and i have my eye on some Tropheus moorii 'ikola' (yellow band)

Well...... i had an offer i could not refuse. The entire contents of a marine tank :D

Not quite settled in yet and the water is still a bit cloudy from the transfer, i have not properly aquascaped it yet either.

:)
