Ok, so if anyone remembers I have a friend who is a breeder. He called me up today, and asked if I wanted this special tank he picked up in san fran years back-- it was made to be a planted 12g display tank and he knows I'm into that.

So I picked it up, but I also picked up 4 candy cane shrimp, and a number of other items I'll talk about in other posts. :shifty:

Anyway, he asked me to raise them too, since the water on my part of the island is especially soft and clean. If I can keep these 4 healthy for a month, he'll give me 20 more to raise and hopefully they'll spawn more.

So, I decided to transform the nano cube thing he gave me into a shrimp factory. The tank came with a pretty good light, 24 watts and reflectors.

Here's the tank:

If you remember, I mentioned that I chucked all the stem plants that were in my 5g into a bucket. I chucked 'em in the new tank-- how well they do will test how good the lighting is. I also tossed in the 2 rocks previously in my 10g, and a piece of wood and some moss.

I think I'm going get nicer bog wood pieces, new substrate and CO2 system for this tank for christmas. Eventually it'll be another planted tank-- but this time for ONLY candy cane shrimp.

Here's a pic of a shrimp, doesn't do it justice. They're bright red and white striped all over in person. This pic is alsy REALLY blown up.

Congrats on the new tank, Tear-scar!

Those shrimp are beautiful.

Can't wait to see your finished tank.

yeah, I'm excited too. Right now though, I'm just going to concentrate on the shrimp-- leave the light on for 14 hours a day and try to build up some algae for the shrimp.

They seem to have taken to it well. The tank is about ten gallons and it seems huge for 4 tiny little shrimp.
