**SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST, I DONT KNOW HOW THAT HAPPENED. PLEASE DELETE ONE**

I was thinking about getting this Molly at the store, that's very pregnant, but would it stress her too much to get her? And if I did, would she abort the pregnancy?

Also, If I do get her, then i'm going to buy a new tank, that i'll use as a breeding tank in the future. So when I fill it up, should I use the 20% of the water from my main tank water change and fill the rest up with regular dechlorinated water with aquarium salt? Or should I add all NEW water?

i just dont want to stress her out if I get her a new tank, by having it go through a cycle.

Thanks

hi,
ive bought home a heavly pregnant female before but she got stressed and did not make it, so it is poss she could abort, if you get a brand new tank will the filter be mature? if not it would go through a cycle if you used old tank or new water.hth donna.

It may make her abort, yes. It's not the best idea to buy heavily pregnant fish.

Marine salt is what you need to make the water brackish for them, not aquarium salt. :) And even if you used water from your old tank, it wouldn't do much. The filter holds most of the bacteria. I'd suggest you move your main tank's filter over, but that'd leave your main tank in a cycle. :X Can you get any mature media from your LFS, or anything? You'd still have to keep a careful eye on the water stats, and do water changes, but it might give you a good jumpstart.

I got a heavily pregnant Molly before from my LFS but as it was a balloon molly I could not tell she was preganant. I added her to my already established mature tank and she had 2 lots of fry only a month apart with no problems at all. :good:

I should imagine a new setup may proove too much for her to handle in that state though :X
(as he thinks back to moving house with a heavily pregnant wife   )
