Hi just a quick question I got a new platy today she is the one that is black on top and bright yellow on bottom not sure what kind she is but on to the topic she is very preg about to explode would it be ok to go ahead and put her in the breeder net cause she is staying in the plants at the bottom of the tank or should I just leave her alone and try to catch the fry I had 2 platies have fry last week and have yet to find any please give me some advice if you got any I would really like to keep some fry this time...........thanks

sometimes ur best not to put them in a breeder tank  because they get stressed out but every livebearer that i have had that is pregnant i have either put them in a container or a breeder tank and they have all been fine  except i put one of my guppies in a container :) and when i came back inside she was on the floor  i thought she was dead  :-( :byebye: i put her back into the container and she was alive  :D :)  .she's now better and back in the main tank  sadly though when she had her babies they were dead :rip:.

It depends how many fry you are willing to take on; platys can have up to 50fry(although this is rare), if you leave her in the tank she may get even more stressed than in a breeding net by the other fish and somtimes they get eaten up instantly by other fish; i had guppy give birth in my tank a year ago and to my horror the other fish were hanging around her eating th efry as she gave birth to them...
Personally if you are certain she is to give birth any moment i would put her in the breeding net so she can give birth in peace; place the net in the tank where it is not directly under the tank lights but still has good flow from the filter. Place some peices of plant in the net(preferably ones that have little leaves so the fry can hide in them) and make sure she gets a good meal so she is not so tempted to eat her own fry.
The birth process can take hours, so i would leave her in the net for at least 6 before you put her back in the main tank just to make sure she's finished; alternatively you can buy a second breeding net to let her recover in for a bit after she has given birth.

I've got 1 male and 2 female platies now and was just wondering IF they do become pregnant what age does this start to occur?

Also, Is it always guaranteed that ALL the fry will b eaten if they aren't separated from the main tank? Is there NO POSSIBILITY that any could survive?

Very slim chance of fry survival in a bare tank, but with many plants/hiding places, might have a few survive.

ok well does anyone know at what age platies are able to mate?
